ORNAMENTS STUDIES SERIES

Drawing / 14”x 20”
Processed excrement, gold, and graphite on watercolor paper (100% cotton)
2021

“Ornaments Studies” is a series of drawings on details of Rococo-inspired decorations that will be used to form decorative patterns in private rooms, as seen in the work “From Waste to Adornment. The Beauty in You” (2022). To create the drawings, I use two principal materials—gold and human excrement—selected for their contrasting connotations on a cultural and economic value level. We all have aspects of ourselves that we do not like; we do not accept or want to hide because we consider them ugly or somehow lacking. Through the action of beautifying excrement — which we all produce — I propose broadening our perspective of ourselves to forge a stronger bond of acceptance and identification with others.
