Parts of mice and cockroaches, resin, drinks, and food.
2004

Makarov, Casa Gaia, Old Havana, Cuba / 2004
We often drink and sample things without fully considering what we are consuming. Even when their appearance hints at a questionable origin, we place our trust in them and allow ourselves to be carried by the impulse to continue consuming—sometimes without pausing to ask whether this is truly what we need.

Drawing on the social ritual of toasting at an exhibition—where drinks, food, and guests converge—I created the vessels used to serve the refreshments. The cups and trays were made of transparent resin and embedded with fragments of mice and cockroaches. Despite their unsettling appearance, these objects were carefully produced to be safe and functional, inviting reflection on desire, trust, and the often unexamined habits that shape our consumption.
